Who is Zaki Ibrahim

Well she is a friend from Canada with Cape Town roots i met a little while ago, I think around 2003 cant really remember. I was still in between moving up and down to JoBurg from Cape Town. She was visiting her family from here in S.A ... Cape Town to be specific. She never said anything about her being a singer or anything ... i remember Heather who was with her, she dj's,she left me a mix back then. We even went to Soweto, ate Kota's ... if you don't know what that means sorry ... So a couple of years later she is making noise i hear her on Tumi's album ... i am like wow no wonder she had that much knowledge of music ... her album is really making noise and she has been on the grind performing everywhere including New York also has a remix with the Legendary King Britt. Anyway aim happy to present her to Party People this weekend and yeah my man OP! i dont have to remind you who he is and by now its now tradition, we will be rocking Party People every Dec. He will be rocking with me on the decks with DJ Nana from Canada whom i hear is also killer on the decks, he will be spinning for Zaki's performance .... cant wait!

Brotha ?uest...

What a weekend ... Riot was one of the most essential weekends of my life ... meeiting ?uestlove has been the most vaulable part of my dj life also cause he left me tons of music... ok he left me one of his external hard drives full of music ... he is a cool cat overall, answers avery ?uestion with honesty and enthusiasm. Word is he wats to come back atleast two times in a year to S.A ...
all i can say is thanx to my man Kgomotso making it happen ... the onus is on him to bring down The Roots naw ... at-least we had two Roots who came down to our shore ... Black Thought was here a while ago and naw ?uestlove ... these two cats are actually the The Roots, founders of the band ... oh and he really meant was he was saying about the Riot gig being " the most important night of his life" he kinda broke it down why ... check

Anyway there were people who couldn't download the tribute mix i did last week so i tried Zshare ... below is the link to the mix

DJKenzhero plays ?uestLove

Ok i finally did it ... hope this mix gives you an idea the calibre of the person ?ueslove is. He is more than just a drummer thus this mix ... i came across a four Volume compilation of ?uestlove's work ... and chose trax that i know some will go ... " did ?uestlove do that? " and introduce some you may have never come across. Well thing is the man is on production but not only on the drums i.e he played percussion on "Forgiveness" by Macy Gray and produced the School of Thoughts “In Liquid Form *I.Q "I Think..."” co-wrote Redmans "ill be Dat!, produced and wrote Dilated Peoples " War". His work as a drummer on other trax and projects will take me year to mention. i had a difficulty with my p.c, my memory was full to record the set so i had to cut it short. i omitted trax he did with Christina Aguilera, Mark Robinson etc ...

Any way below is my summation of this mans work ... hope this gears you up and serves as a reminder of the calibre of this artist ... but hey dont forget he will be trowing down a DJ Set check clips below for reference: Enjoy!

The Bridge is Over The Bridge is Over!

Took me a little while to write this post ... been recovering from the Masta Ace show, while i was in that mist we were on the verge of losing probably the only realest hip hop show in the country " Da Bridge" ... i always felt that if this show finishes, it will be my last radio show on YFM cause i dont see what other show will fit in, also some new kids need to get a bit of a break ... also cause my allies are all gone i.e Rude Boy Paul, Sanza, Bad Boy and now Lee ... i am saying this cause i have actualy played all the major slots on YFM.
( Short story before i list the shows ... i was first approached to play on the Harambe show when it started in 2000 ... I couldn't cause i had decided to leave for Cape Town. I feel like Naked DJ did justice cause he was the right person to do the job, he opened a lot of minds by crossing the boundary of new dj's moving towards commercial sounds and was one of a few who got a chance to introduce local hip hop tracks on radio in his sets. I left the city to experiment ...
anyway i came back and became a permanent guest on Harambe which had moved from the 6 to 10pm slot to 3 to 6pm, i played there on Wednesdays back in 2004/5 and maybe 2006 ... Luckily the brief i was given by BadBoy wasnt the same , i was alowed to play what eva i wished

anyway i had been on

1.Harambe with BadBoy T Lee & Sanza the drive time show
2.Kamikazi with Rude Boy & Sanza - the break fast show
3.Dabridge with Lee and Ace of Spades - the late night show

so if you think about it, i shouldnt be selfish ... but parting with "DA Bridge" definitely marks a huge hole in independent hip hop ... but im not sad ... with that said below is the Masta Ace clip which may be the last clip you will get from me from YFM ... ill try recall all the audio mixes i did from the show tho ...

Mixtape Part II - Strick Not Comming - Ace on his Way

Ok here goes it! Been doing last touch up's on the event, things seem to be going, ... Ok not really well ... but hold on, the show is still on and the man you been waiting for is in the air on his way here as i write this... with DJFlo Fader whom you already familiar with ... Unfortunately Strick will not be joining them. He had issues with his passport at the airport ... Nuff said ... i know some of you are like who is Strick anyway? it was going to be a sweet surprise ... well not really since there is some people who know him from E.M.C.

I received this message about Strick as i was finishing off / cleaning the Part Two of the DJKenzhero plays Masta Ace mix that i was preparing for the radio show Da Bridge on Y ... Cross your fingers for thursday tho, we may just be on air! Dont take my word for it tho! So i am keeping my promise about the mix ... This mix is more of what a lot of us are famelier with when it comes to Masta Ace' s material or shoud i say newer material ... so i put together my favorites ( hope they your favorite too ) .. Masta Ace tracks ... the tracks are short and edited as clean version, like said they were a preparation for the radio set. I also ddnt wana put them to waist ... Enjoy!

DJKenzhero plays Masta Ace Part 1...

Wow what a week, preparations for this show has been the most taxing ever. This goes out to anyone who thinks that its a simple thing to do a show like Party People , i mean organizing a show like this independently ... think again. Like i said before i am mere dj ( well producer and other things as well ) all i want to do is to "Wiki Wiki". Having said that all is on point right naw with regards to the show. Ace and crew land on Wed, then its on! So during all this stressed out week i been digging out Masta Ace old material, and the samples obviously. So i was preparing a promo set, for our Radio show on Y, Da Bridge ( i know i know we havn't been on, hope this week we go back again), thought why not record this for you, so Candace hooked up the covers quickly ... BIG UP!. This is not like an official mix-tape of Masta Ace. this is a mere exercise...

Most people i know, know Ace from the 2001 album " Disposable Arts ", and some still confused on some " is it Masta Ace the old school Masta Ace ?" and cant figure out if you know his old school stuff or not, well help is here. There are some who remember "Sitting on Chrome" from '95, which was followed by a remix by the one and only Jay Dee ( J Dilla ) [ R.I.P ]. Yeah Ace was there during the golden era too, even before ... think 88/89. Some read or heard his verse on " No Regrets" about his verse being on " The Symphony" by Marly Marl was regarded as his first when he was with the "Juice Crew". Well i didn't include that track, sorry! Anyway nuff talk, here is the 1st Mix ( Part1). You can down load this mix to remind you or give a clue of where Masta Ace comes from ... While i go do the 2nd Mix ... Link is below

Naw we are ready to say it ... Masta Ace it is ...

I write this with a smile on my face, cause i know you been waiting for this moment ...Its been a long ass week man ... and i ddnt go a day with out people popping up on my chats, face book or gmail ... naw its like every body wants to know first , ok i get it but its not as easy where i am sitting. Doing a production like this is like handling an egg, i know it doesn't make sense but yeah it is a sensitive issue naw but its not as easy as sending an email to your favourite artist and boom they are here performing, there is a lot of issues to be considered, so you have to be dead sure when you send out your word. so i have learned my lesson once again by dropping something about Ace comming thru, thanx Lee, you really put me under a lot of pressure by announcing the show on our radio show the Bridge ... here is a word of advice tho ... it aint happening until i say so... so all them people spreading gaga about this and that one comming, don't listen to them just check this Blog cause its the truth. Lets Go!

Not So Back in the days

this clip was taken sometime in July last year, the quality is a little dodge but you can get an idea of what takes place @ Party People as we continue on this month with the 27th event. it really has been a long road and i see it go a little further than i think. you might catch yourself in this clip or a friend. I see some cameos there from miss Siyabangena herself Ntsiki Mazwai, Keneilwe former miss Party People " where you at miss? " she used to have a ball there, always by the dj booth screaming all the time. oh and the shy mr Kush Khoza, Papi, regulars Matome Miss T and more friends. This was when it wasn't that full sometimes but the vibe was still crazy ... Also featured in theclip is the track "Maria" by Tumi ( Volume) which became one of the theme songs of Party People ...enjoy

Daam i Missed my Flight again...

so i did finally make it to Cape Town on friday ... but only @ 10pm well at the venue that is... the story goes like this ... originally i was spose to catch the 12:45 so i got there about 9min after check i so i decided to take on the stand -by flight at 3:30 guess what the flight got full so there was a couple of us on stand by who didn't make it... the next flight out was at 6:30 .... hmm went to check other airline .. either the flight was too expensive or fully booked ... so i decided i dont wana be stuck there i mean i had a gig to do plus i had missed a 6pm meeting anyway .... so i go ahead and buy another ticket avoiding stand-by ... guess what the flight was then delayed for almost two hours so i was stuck at the airport for almost 8 hours ...

Party People Cape Town Tomoro

As we continue on , tomoro Party People head on to Cape Town feat Forgotten Frequencies w/ Rozzano and D-Form. lemme tell you a bit about Rozzano. he is basically a
living legend from Cape Town, this guy started playing music as in djying before Ready D actualy they were in a crew with Ready D back in the 80's as B-Boys. He's played literaly everywhere around the country. Worked in the music industry since ever he began getting into it. so when they say give thanx to the Old School Real Rozzano is in there.
D-Form on the other hand is not so new school, as a matter of fact he may well be as old school as Rozzano. he may never be as known an old-scholar as Ro but his contribution with Moodphase 5 as the main guy who Mcees in the band set his pace of contribution. Don't be surprised when you see him behind the decks too he is that versitile and knowledgeable ok nuff said! here is a link to a taste of what these guys are all about download this:

Party People Epk

Ok here is the Story... been a long week finishing thing off and stuff for sat, for the CD Launch ... The CD was initially spose to come out with the DVD as a combo ... we've come across technical problems but not to worry ... the DVD will come out eventually hence the EPK above. So we will go on with the Launch as planned, so it goes lie this: from 7pm here will be the official launch for the media ... then doors will open @ 9pm as per usual. Sad news is that copies of the actual show... but promise that the cd will be in stores early Nov '08. nuff said!

Throw back

ok i pulled this of of the not so old archives... its from last year when i was on the Kamazi morning show with Rudeboy & Sanza on yfm....had fun on that show cause i got on with the guys very well even before i was on the show. Sanza always found a way of putting me on, Rudeboy ... we did a lot of shows together performing in the same space. they allowed me to play what eva i liked which is my prerequisite anyway... you can see i was struggling cause the set up at Y has always been difficult to maneuver thanx to Serato my set up is jacked up naw. enjoy

Passed weekend: yeah it was on with Party People once again ... kinda exclusive if u think about it... well when was the last time you saw Tumi & The Volume perform together either than hearing they are somewhere overseas... it was a great continuation from 34Oml who also been bizzy recording their second album... my man Tumi hit me up with an sms on some i would like to perform this month Blah Blah.. and im like "lucky stars" but wait... i had Zubz lined up and been spreading news that he would be unleashing his new album material .i.e 340ml ( as you should know Zubz's album is ready to hit the shelf and thought it would be revealed hmm! Politics.) so i had told Tumi i dont have space till next year some time hmmm what a nerve ! nyway divine intervention we experienced the volume with Tumi ... some deemed it the best PP in a long Time in JHB.... HMM

Tumi

CT was as always is unpredictable... it was kinda rough as i missed my flight there ( for the first time since 2005 ) ) had a meeting with some cats we are working on getting a big fish/es down to perform in Nov ( cant tell for naw but its a big group... ) it was refreshing to see 5thflo ( currently held down by Mcees Camo & Tabz , who recorded on most tracks on the follow up album called "SEX & Revolution) with the band...Dope!

holdinn it down

The Olympics

what a week its been rather two weeks...ok lemme start with the Olypics ... been quite disappointing for the countries reps to come back with one silver ... nyway big-up's to the paralympics they done us proud... on that note the Hype in the Streets Awards took place ... a lot of people been trying to get my opinion ... frankly i was skeptical but was surprised by the outcome never-mind that i won the Best hIP hOP DJ Of the year... thank u - thank u - thank u... never saw it coming ... never that i lost the event of the year to Red Bull" my sponsor" . how can i compete with a 4mill euros event...big ups to them tho...i think the awards will get people to work hard or towards something rather its still early to judge ...funny how the same complainers will be working hard towards winning next year Big Up to Hype Mag for a good initiative

photo

Had a problem with one catagory tho... " MixTape of the year...hmmm ... since when did mix tapes never mix...guess the blame on us the dj's tho for not bringing it ( or how about the dope dj's who have done Hype mixes in the past? lets say we call it Hype Mag Mixtape of the year? ) he'res what i think tho...for the sake of peace lets have two categories... 1 for DJ MIXTAPE of the Year and 2 for Artist mixtape of the year ( this might be confusing tho.... imagine i mix ,,, imean wiki wiki mix say Sudan's Mix tape ...
who must get the award in that case? ala S.O.S Mix mixed by DJ Paperkutt ( NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE S.O.S Cats god knows they worked hard to get it out there)...hmmm confusing aint it? ... lets call the artist mixtape of the year category compilation of the year...
one thing fo sho u'll be guaranteed to hear more mixtapes from dj's this year/next year i swear and they better be mixed ... put some wiki wiki on it!

Biog

Born during the uprising of the youth against apartheid in 1976, Kenzhero was brought up surrounded by a music loving family. His first musical influence was his grandfather whom introduced the future Dj to his massive collection of all kinds of music, ranging from jazz, blues and soul.

Around 1998 Kenzhero began deejaying at various poetry sessions in and out of Johannesburg. By 2000 he started an event-based organization called Organix, organizing live performances at the old Bassline. The events brought about a band called Tumi and the Volume and featured some of the most recognized artists such as Lebo Mashile, Mxo, Waddy Jones and Sibot (Max Normal)

In 2001 Dj Kenzhero moved to Cape Town where he collaborated with P4radio deejay Kekotso Sachane and Masauko Chipembere again forming a music and poetry event called Native Yards. The event featured the likes of the then unknown singer ‘Freshlyground’s’ Zolani, Cape Towns’ ‘MoodPhase5s’ Ernie and more.

Fast forward a couple of years and through all the in between’s, upon his return from Cape Town in 2004 Zhero’ was invited to become a regular feature on Y fm’s ‘Harambe’, hosted by Bad Boy T, Lee and Sanza. In 2005 he moved to Pretoria where he freelanced for festival organizers ‘Oppikkopi’. He managed to become a regular Feature on ‘Tuks’ fm playing his soul out as a Dj, co-producer and sometimes-even going as far as hosting the show. He currently is on Yfm’s breakfast show with Rudeboy and Sanza called the Kamikazi on Wednesdays

Come 2006, welcome the unbelievable birth of the Party People generation.
